Kia ora e te whanau
As we near the end of 2023, we are reflecting on the year, now looking forward to 2024 and mapping out how sport will feature, as this is a big part of our culture at Raglan Area School. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers – coaches, managers, transport support and officials who have given up their time to ensure our students get to play sport. It is a massive commitment and we thoroughly appreciate it.
As I am sure you know, Raglan Area School is very passionate about sport and we love seeing our young people active. We strive to ensure our kura offers a variety of sports whilst considering the balance of local opportunities as well as Waikato wide competitions. All of these come with associated costs from the organisations offering these codes – and these costs have risen substantially in recent years. These costs are now getting pushed onto the schools.
Up until now Raglan Area School has been absorbing over 65% of the costs for organised sport. This is no longer sustainable and the school cannot afford to continue to do this. Therefore the sports fees at our Kura are going to increase in 2024.
We have made the following decisions.
- The school will pay for staff costs, uniform upgrades and replacements as well as school van usage costs related to co-curricula sport. This commitment will help to keep the increase at a minimum.
- Each code’s costs will be reflected individually so each code will have a different sports fee
- All whanau are welcome to set up payment plans to ensure the new fees are achievable (our bank account details are – Raglan Area School Board of Trustees 12-3122-0338919-00, please reference your child’s name and sport)
- Payment of sports fees will be accepted within four weeks of the season beginning, allowing whanau time to organise payment.
Information costs are explained in the table below:
