Kia ora e te whānau
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I hope that everyone in our school community is keeping well despite the horrible weather and colds and flus that come with it.
The next 5 months will be a busy time for the Board of Trustees as we will be consulting with the community to help inform the updated strategic plans for the next few years. The new framework for this school planning and reporting, called Te Whakangārahu Ngātahi│Planning Together for Ākonga Success: Our School, Our Community will be a major piece of work for the Board over the next five months. We look forward to hearing from our whānau during this consultation period. Further information will be shared in August.
Te Ao Māori at Raglan Area School
Many thanks to those whānau who were able to attend the meeting held last Thursday 20 July in Te Puawaitanga. We are sharing the presentation and whānau feedback that was gathered at that meeting with everyone. Further hui are planned to assist the school in updating our strategic planning.

New Staff Update
The Board has recently ratified the appointments of 3 new staff members as follows.
- Karen Woodcock who will join the RAS teaching team at the beginning of 2024 to take up a position as the Lead Teacher English Years 7-13. She comes with a wealth of experience and expertise to add to this role. Dave O’Loughlin, who is currently in this role, will be on leave in 2024.
- Joseph Rao returns at the beginning of Week 4 in place of Michelle Campbell who resigned at the end of Term 2. Joe is an experienced RAS teacher and will be teaching in a Years 7&8 class. We are delighted to have him back in our school team.

Property Update
1. The Board is working to get the swimming pool back in operation. We are currently looking at our repair options and will keep our community informed on progress being made.
2. School cameras are being installed throughout the school and will improve security for our property and resources and also the safety of all users of our facilities.
3. We are on track with our plans to have the basketball court adjacent to our school hall covered and ready for next year. This will increase the usage of the court all year round for our students.
4. A major internal upgrade of some of our classrooms and toilet facilities is due to begin in term four. It involves refurbishment works to the spaces and is likely to continue into the 2024 school year.
Current Board Members
Recently, we accepted the resignation of three Board members; Sonya Drysdale (parent trustee), Sian Atkinson (parent trustee) and Lisa Rapana (co-opted board member). We thank them for their contributions to the Board of Trustees and wish them all well in their future endeavours.
David Duffin is the replacement Presiding Chair and Stefan Frew has assumed the role of Deputy Presiding Chair. They are supported by Louisa Barham (Principal), Lisa Thomson (parent trustee), Linda Holmes (staff trustee) and Lani Frazenhurst (student trustee). The Board Secretary is Jules Holden.
Raglan Area School Board Casual Vacancies for two parent representatives
As a result of the resignation of two Board parent trustee resignations mentioned above, two casual vacancies have occurred on the school board for elected parent representatives. The board has decided to fill these two vacancies by selection and this decision was minuted at the Board meeting held Wednesday 26 July 2023. The current Board is already into the second year of its three year term and have identified skills that we need to target. The Selection process allows us to do this.
If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held. Request for a by-election should be sent by 26 August 2023 to:
