Auckland Writers Festival
On Monday the 22nd of August, a group of keen young RAS writers set off to the big smoke: Auckland! They stayed in a central Auckland backpackers and wrote short stories about the explorations of the city.
On Tuesday, they woke bright and early and ventured to the annual Auckland Writers Festival, where were lucky enough to listen to many talented poets and writers speak about their writing passions; sharing some of their mahi with over 1000 eager New Zealand students.
They also interacted face to face with the authors, purchased books and even got them signed! Overall, it was an amazing experience and they highly recommend it to any keen writers next year.

Jewellery Making
We are immensely proud of our Year 10 students who displayed their Term 2 learning in a Jewellery Social Action Exhibition at the Old School Art Centre yesterday evening. Students had the privilege of working with Creative Artist and Jeweller Sarah Steed as part of our Creatives Grant and designed and made beautiful jewellery. They also researched organisations that make positive change in our world and created display boards to raise awareness and donations for their kaupapa.
Interestingly, our students focus was on the environment, wellbeing, poverty and animal protection. This highlights how committed our learners are to addressing the pertinent issues of our time. Sarah Steed has been outstanding as a creative leading students through a 10 week Jewellery course. She is now working with our year 9 students and has developed jewellery making into an option at our school. The exhibition is very high quality and we encourage our whanau from all areas of the kura to take the time to view the work. The space will be open from the 24th of August to the 4th of September 10AM until 3PM. Thank you to all the whānau that attended the opening it was a fantastic turnout.
