We are in the middle of Term 2 already, where has the time gone!
Term 2 kicked off with a bang with the Yr 5/6 Camp to Ngāruawāhia – teachers and students had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone who supported the raffles and bake sales, and speaking of baking – the amount of baking sent out to Camp was phenomenal! The parent helpers who gave up their valuable time to come and support the tamariki were amazing. Thank you so much whanau, without your support these camps could not be a success. I read an excellent article recently about education and how every child needs a “champion”, someone they can look up to, aspire to become, whilst the only barriers to them accomplishing this is their own belief in THEMSELVES. Tamariki need to know that we believe in them and we can do this together by asking how their day is, helping them with their mahi as much as practicable, providing a healthy lunch and snacks, being on time to collect them, connecting with their teacher and getting to know their friends. It’s mid-year report time and teachers have been working very hard to gather, analyze and report on the progress of your child. Look out for these reports which will come out at the end of the term. There will be an opportunity to speak to those reports at the next parent/teacher learning conversations in Term 3. A reminder to read all the notices/newsletters so you keep up to date with what is happening at kura. We have facebook, emails, Edge app and our website – check in regularly whanau. If you have any patai or questions, feel free to alternatively contact me at haylee_webber@raglanarea.school.nz. Have an awesome Term 2 koutou! Nā Whaea Haylee Webber (Kura Teina) |

Nau mai hoki mai ki te wahanga hou – Term 2
Year 7-8 Term 1 ended with year 7-8 overnight camp in Kawhia. Our students were joined by their teachers, Whaea Michelle Campbell, Matua Eddie Marztinez, Whaea Michelle Satchall. A great time was had by all and gave the opportunity for year 7-8 to farewell Whaea Jaime Paulin and welcome Matua Keiran. Year 9-10 In week three on Monday 8 May our year 10 students attended a Careers day in Hamilton organised by Whaea Naomi and Whaea Gwyn. Students attended two workshops and were exposed to future careers and pathways advice. The first was hosted by Te Wananga o Aotearoa in Glenview. Following that the students went to NZMA and were shown the range of opportunities available to them post schooling, A particular highlight was the barista course allowing students to make their own coffee for the adults. Years 11-13 Our Surf Academy has travelled to Gisborne to compete in the Sequence Surf Shop Gisborne Junior Pro and had some good placings. Of note Tyler Perry placed 2nd and Will Hardie 4th. Theo Morse and sister Alani Morse made the NZ junior surf team. Our Year 12s have just completed their workplace first aid certificate and gained some valuable knowledge and credits. This mini credential will be valid for the next two years. All years 11-13 have now had the opportunity to attend an employability workshop at school to give students an insight into what employers are looking for from potential employees, Also allowing students a chance to ask questions regarding employment into the future. We will be starting our mini credential course for learner licensing for those students that are eligible and ready to study. This is part of our wider Kia Tu programme aimed at supporting students in their journey into future employment. It’s mid-year reports time and teachers have been working very hard to gather, analyze and report on the progress of your child. Look out for these reports which will come out at the end of the term. There will be an opportunity to speak to those reports at the next parent/teacher learning conversations in Term 3. Looking Ahead this term we have
