Kia ora koutou
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone has had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break.
You will be aware that the PPTA (The New Zealand Post Primary Teachers’ Association / Te Wehengarua) Teacher’s union and Ministry of Education are yet to reach a settlement on the Secondary School Teachers Collective Agreement.
The PPTA have informed schools that industrial action will continue this term affecting students in Kura Tuakana, Years 7-13. This industrial action includes regional strikes and rostering home of year levels. On set days PPTA members will not teach a particular year level and so that year level is rostered home. Students who are rostered home are able to work at home or via their teacher’s google classroom.
This is the proposed strike action for term 2:
Term Week | Date | Year Group Rostered Home |
Week 2 | Thursday 4th May | Year 11 |
Week 3 | Tuesday 9th May Thursday 11th May |
Year 12 Years 7-13 |
Week 4 | Tuesday 16th May Wednesday 17th May |
Year 9 Year 10 |
Week 5 | Thursday 25 May | Year 11 |
Week 6 | Tuesday 30 May Thursday 1 June |
Year 13 Year 12 |
Week 7 | Thursday 8 June | Year 9 |
Thursday 11 May (Week 3) all PPTA members will be on strike, therefore normal classes for all Years 7-13 students will not operate.
Please note that at this stage Kura Teina Years 0-6 students are not affected and will continue to come to school as usual.
Hopefully a settlement can be reached as quickly as possible so disruption to our teaching programmes can be avoided. I will keep you informed of any developments and any changes to this outline.
