Please contact the school office to talk about enrolling your child. You can do this by calling 07 825 8140 and talking to Sue Millward (Student Secretary) or by emailing office@raglanarea.school.nz. Once you have registered you will be contacted to arrange a meeting with the relevant school leader, where you can collect enrolment forms. You will need to provide a birth certificate or passport for your child alongside proof of their immunisations if they are immunised. If you are enrolling a new entrant student please do this about a term in advance of you wishing for them to start school so that the school can plan transition visits.

School Zoning

Years 0-8 school is zoned unless attending Te Rōpū Aroha ki Te Reo Māori Immersion Unit.

Zone map

Year 1–8

The development and operation of enrolment schemes is undertaken under authority granted under Schedule 20 of the Education and Training Act 2020, which describes the basis on which the Secretary’s powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.

Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below (and shown on the map) shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

The zone includes areas to the north and south of Raglan Harbour / Whaingaroa.

Note: Both sides of all streets and roads included in the above description are included unless otherwise stated.

Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.

Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

Special Programmes

Level 1 Māori Language Learning (Rumaki)

Students who live within the school’s home zone will be enrolled ahead of out of zone students, up to a maximum rumaki roll determined by the school.

Criteria for Acceptance into Level 1 Māori Language Learning (Rumaki)

The procedure for determining which out of zone students will be enrolled, if there are more applicants than places available, is as follows.

Each year the board will determine the number of places likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. This information will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

  1. First Priority: siblings of tuakana in the unit.
  2. Second Priority: children from Kohanga Reo.
  3. Third Priority: children transferring from other immersion settings.
  4. Fourth Priority: all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, or fourth priority groups than places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot, similar to the process used for the English Language Learning roll described in the section Out of Zone Enrolments (English Language Learning).

Kia ora Whānau and Raglan Community,

As we head into the holidays, we want to share the next step in our ongoing commitment to student safety. This trial is the culmination of extensive consultation and planning between Raglan Area School, the Waikato District Council, our local residents, and our school planning committee.

To address the significant traffic pressure we see in the winter terms, we are now ready to move into a live 4-week Traffic Safety Trial.

💡 Important Parking Reminder

Please be aware that there will be fewer parking spaces available on Norrie Avenue during these peak times. We ask that you plan your drop-offs and pick-ups with this in mind. The angled parks on the school side of the road remain available, but we encourage a “Drop & Go” approach to keep the road clear and safe for all students.

This is a data-gathering period. We will be monitoring flow, recording “near misses,” and seeking your feedback in Week 4. This approach reflects the feedback we have gathered from our neighbours and Council partners to find a “win-win” for our street before any permanent decisions are made.

Mana Rangatahi – Empowering Young People. By working together to manage our roads, we ensure our tamariki start and end their school day in a safe, respectful environment.

Thank you for your support of this initiative. Have a safe and restful school holiday!

Kia ora everyone!

It’s been a massive Term 1, and we are so proud of our students. As we head into the break, we want to look ahead to how you can get involved in Term 2.

We are rebooting our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for 2026, and we want to hear your voice. No long-term commitments—just a 30-minute catch-up to see what we’re about.

WHEN: Wednesday, 29th April (Week 2, Term 2)
WHERE: The Staff Room

Pick the time that suits your schedule:

What’s the 30-minute agenda?

  1. A quick update on what’s happening at school.
  2. How the PTA will run this year (making it easy and fun!).
  3. A chance to share your ideas over a quick cuppa.

Enjoy the holidays, stay safe, and we’ll see you in the Staff Room on the 28th!

Ngā mihi nui – Louisa & the RAS Team

Massive congratulations to Raglan Area School student Jimmy Wernham on anoutstanding achievement; U14 Boys Champion!

Jimmy took out the U14 Boys Final at the Billabong Grom Series – Event #3,held at Piha Beach.

We are so proud of the dedication, talent, and hard work Jimmy shows in hissurfing.

We would like to acknowledge the achievements of two of our senior students, Mika Kereopa and Taine Drewery, who have been selected to compete at the IVF World Sprints Championships in Singapore this August.

Mika paddles for the J19 team Hine Ipipiri, representing Tirohanga Waka Hoe. She shows a strong commitment to her training, leaving home at 5am to paddle with her team at Hamilton Lake, as well as training after school and on the weekends.

Taine paddles for the J19 Te Toki Asoy team and in the lead-up to qualification, trained twice a day – both mornings and afternoons.

Being selected to compete at this level reflects the time and effort they have put into their sport. We wish them all the best for their competition in August.
